QUESTION NO. 20

QUESTION: Councillor E. Walsh

"To ask the manager whether measures can be introduced on Whitehall Road West to control parking in the area (eg: disk parking) as residents are greatly inconvienienced and endangered by the considerable amount of parking by non residents at this location and will he make a statement on the matter?"

REPLY:

The Roads department is drafting revised Control of Parking Bye Laws. The Council is empowered to adopt such byelaws under Section 36 of the Road Traffic Act 1994.

The current Control of Parking Bye Laws define the area where pay and display or permit parking apply. In order for additional areas to be included in any pay and display or permit parking scheme, a new bye law must be adopted.

The area  around Whitehall Road West will be examined and a report on the parking arrangements will be presented to the members in conjunction with the proposed implementation of revised bye laws.
