COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TERENURE-RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE (2)

HEADED ITEM NO. 11
Report on Green Bin Service
As previously reported a number of apartment complexes throughout the County which receive a refuse collection service from the Council do not receive a green bin service from the Council. This was principally due to the agents for these complexes not agreeing to the green bin service being extended to include the complexes they manage.
Following the adoption of Bye-Laws for the Storage, Presentation and Collection of Household Waste, 2007 in November last year, the Environmental Services Department is now in a position to address this matter with the agents through discussion and enforcement if necessary.
Correspondence has issued to two management agents who manage apartment complexes in the Terenure/Rathfarnham area advising them of their responsibilities under the Bye-Laws and requesting that they provide details of their arrangements to ensure the separate collection of dry recyclable waste at the complexes they manage. They have been advised that if the necessary information is not forthcoming they will be subject to enforcement proceedings as stipulated in the Bye-Laws.
An additional five apartment complexes in the Terenure/Rathfarnham area whose management agents are not known to the Council are being investigated with a view to determining what management arrangements are in place with a view to commencing the same enforcement process under the Bye-Laws if necessary. These complexes have changed management arrangements and some previous management agents have been unable to advise us of the new arrangements.
Members will be kept informed of developments.
