MEETING OF TERENURE-RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE (2)

Tuesday, September 09, 2008

QUESTION NO 4.

QUESTION: Councillor P. Cosgrave

"To ask the Manager to have safety check on the large slide at Rathfarnham Castle childrens playground, Parents believe it is dangerous for young children?"

REPLY:

All equipment installed as part of the playground in Rathfarnham Castle Park meets with current Irish Standard I.S.EN 1176 Parts 1-7 (which provides guidance on installation, inspection, maintenance and operation of playground/play equipment likewise the surfacing of the play area conforms to Irish Standard I.S.EN 1177, which specifies requirements for impact absorbing surfacing to be used in children’s playgrounds.

Similarly as set out in Irish Standard IS. EN 1176 an inspection and maintenance schedule has been put in place for the playground in order to reduce the likelihood of accidents.

A ROSPA Post Installation Inspection carried out at Rathfarnham Castle on the 13th May 2008 deemed that the level of risk for the playground at the time of the inspection was low and the playground is considered accessible for those with reasonable mobility difficulties.
