QUESTION NO. 16

QUESTION: Councillor C. Brophy

"To ask the Manager to provide a breakdown of the number of graffiti removals which have been carried out by the Council during June, July and August of 2008 in the Terenure/Rathfarnham area.  Can the Manager also supply information on how many requests have been received for graffiti cleaning materials supplied by the Council in this area?"

REPLY:

During the three months in question the Council's Anti-Graffiti Team and our specialist graffiti removal contractor have removed graffiti at 21 locations in the administrative area of this committee on foot of requests from public representatives and/or customers as well as undertaking a substantial graffiti removal job at the M50/Firhouse pedestrian underpass.  There are currently four requests outstanding in the administrative area.

With regard to supplying graffiti cleaning materials, specific details on the number of requests/issues of materials are not available but a total of 103 customer contacts were categorised under Graffiti during this period throughout the County.  Upon receipt of any complaints of graffiti, the relevant Litter Warden will first investigate the possibility of utilising the resources of the local community/residents associations to remove graffiti by offering to provide materials and paint as required.  If this approach does not yield a positive outcome, Litter Wardens will then list the graffiti for removal by the Council's Anti-Graffiti Team or a graffiti removal contractor as appropriate.
