MEETING OF TERENURE-RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE (2)

Tuesday, September 09, 2008

QUESTION NO 14.

QUESTION: Councillor C. Keane

"To ask the Manager for a report on the provision of a swimming pool for the TRAC area noting that The Water Leisure Strategy Review carried out by the Council has as a recommendation:

“Examination of existing leisure facilities including swimming pools serving the Terenure/Rathfarnham area be completed, identify a suitable site and work towards the development of a joint venture proposal.”

I was informed when I raised this issue (14th Nov. 2006) that “Work on identification of a suitable site will continue and the investigation of the appropriate opportunity to allow the Council advance the recommendation”  Could I have an update on this?"

REPLY:

As reported at the Area Committee meeting of 13th November 2007 the Council has been actively pursuing a couple of options in this regard in line with the recommendations of the Water Leisure Strategy Review as presented and adopted by the Council.

The specific recommendation referenced is:

“Examination of existing leisure facilities including swimming pools serving the Terenure / Rathfarnham area be completed, identify a suitable site and work towards the development of a joint venture proposal.”

Work is continuing in this matter but progress is and will be slow having regard to the current economy and confidential nature of such discussions and it is difficult therefore to outline a timescale at this stage until the options being investigated are concluded. Every effort will be made to further progress the options to a stage of possible conclusion prior to reporting back to the Committee.
