QUESTION NO. 1

QUESTION: Councillor J. Hannon

To ask the Manager to outline the commencement date for the roll-out of Brown Bins, and can he provide details of the specific areas to be served initially and the rationale for their selection.

REPLY:

In line with recent Circular Letter from the Minister, the Brown Bin scheme is to be advanced as a priority as soon as possible. It is envisaged that the brown bin roll-out will commence this year, and continue through to early 2009. The Council's Refuse Service is currently involved in and has committed resources to the implementation of the “pay as you go” waste charges system as committed to Members. Once this scheme has advanced significantly attention will then focus on the Brown Bin Scheme.

Discussions with staff representatives in relation to the introduction of the service and planning of the implementation of the Brown Bin Schme are continuing
