MOTION NO. 13

MOTION: Councillor C. Brophy

"That the Manager carry out a review of the traffic lights sequence at the junction of  Templeville Rd and Springfield.  The pedestrian sequence is currently too short to enable a safe crossing of the road."

REPORT:

In any signalised pedestrian crossing the green man is the "invitation to cross". This is an important difference between pedestrian and vehicular signals.

The actual crossing time is the amber man as a pedestrian may step from the kerb at the last moment of green pedestrian signal and still require sufficient time to cross the road. The green man or "invitation time" is 6 seconds. The amber man time varies, depending on the width of the road to be crossed, from 9 to 11 seconds.
