Minutes of Meeting of the Environment Strategic Policy Committee Held on the 7th May 2008 Members Present Councillor T. McDermott Councllor C. King Councillor M. Murphy Councillor G. Harty, Senior Executive Engineer R. McGarry, A/ Senior Staff Officer Apology for inability to attend was received from Mr. B. Buckley. An Cathaoirleach, Councillor T. McDermott presided. Item 1 Minutes of meeting held on 6th February 2008. Proposed by Cllr. T. McDermott, seconded by Cllr. G. O’Connell and Agreed Item 2 Matters Arising Ms. C. Kiernan stated that she did not receive information on the Council’s ECO week which took place in April. Senior Executive Officer, J. Quinlivan responded. Item 3 South Dublin County Council Draft Litter Management Plan 2008 – 2011 J. Quinlivan, Senior Executive Officer presented a summary of the draft Litter Management Plan which had already been circulated .Following contributions by Cllrs. O’Connell, Walsh, King, Brophy and Mc Dermott. Mr Quinlivan responded to the issues raised by the Members. The Draft Plan was approved by the Committee and it was agreed that the Plan would be presented for approval to the Council. Item 4 Illegal Dumping in the Dublin Mountains. A report on this matter which had already been circulated was presented by L. Magee, Senior Engineer. The report included ‘inter-alia’ details of complaints received, sites being investigated and enforcement procedures being taken. Following contributions from Cllrs Mc Dermott, Murphy and King Mr. Magee responded to the issues raised and it was agreed that an updated report would be provided on this matter at a forthcoming meeting of the Committee. Item 5 Climate Change Strategy Update A report on this matter which had been circulated and was discussed. It was noted that Dublin City Council through a company called CODEMA which is owned by the City Council, had developed a draft Climate Change Strategy for the City and that given the proximity of the City to this County and the similarities in population, profile etc. that CODEMA would be invited to deliver a workshop on the subject to SPC Members. The Workshop date was agreed for the 23rd May 2008. It was also agreed that a draft Climate Change Strategy would be presented to the Committee at its September meeting. Item 6 A.O.B Cllr Murphy raised the issue of the new Green Bin Contract. J.Quinlivan Senior Executive Officer stated that the matter was currently at procurement stage at regional level and that the process had not yet been completed. The meeting concluded at 7pm.
