Drainage at 29 to 35 Knockmore Park
REPORT:
Following a report which was issued at the Tallaght Area Committee Meeting on 19th May last the Senior Executive Engineer has now issued a detailed report on the findings at this location since then.
Due to the unusual construction route of this drain, attempts to excavate to carry out repairs proved unsuccessful. However, on 25th April 2008 a Jetter machiene was used in order to thoroughly clean the drain. Following on that work on the 6th May a pipe tracking device to track the route of the meandering pipeline was used. On the 20th May the works crew carried out a CCTV inspection of the drain and discovered that the pipe bends at a junction of earthenware to a PVC pipe approx 1.5 metres downstream of the existing manhole. It is suspected that the joint at this point may be allowing a constant ingress of small stones.
In addition one or more households are allowing a high influx of Fats Oils & Greases into the system. A medium sized plastic ball was also removed from the line following continued cleaning by the Jetter machiene and this has had a considerable positive effect on the flow of the line, which has been monitored regularly since.
It is intended to repair the area where the pipe bends from earthenware to PVC and to construct a manhole at the location, which will assist in relieving any future blockages on the drain in question.
