QUESTION NO. 6
QUESTION: Councillor J. Lahart
To ask the Manager how many householders have transferred to private contract waste disposal/collection and to make a statement on the matter?
REPLY:
Prior to the entry of private contractors into the provision of household waste collection in the Dublion Region, South Dublin County Council provided the service to 85,000 householders approximately. To date 1,252 households have notified the Environmental Services Department that they have transferred to an alternative refuse collection service.
The impact of households withdrawing form the Council's service is continually monitored to assess the effect on the efficiencies of the existing routes and service but at present there is no significant impact. The proposed Variation to the Waste Management Plan for the Dublin Region 2005 - 2010 aims to address the effect of the fractured collection service that has developed in parts of the the Dublin Region and to prevent its haphazard expansion in the Region.
