MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor K. Warren

That this Committee supports the residents of Virginia Heights in their request for a cleanup of the old 'John of God' site which runs adjacent to their area and is causing both anti-social and dumping problems for the residents and the matter be discussed.

REPORT:

This site is the subject of current discussions between the Housing Department and Respond Housing Association concerning the proposed development of voluntary housing there while the Development Department have commenced investigation of the site as a derelict site.  The Members will be informed of updates on both of these processes as and when further information is available. 

Additionally, the Environmental Services Department have been in contact with the site owners to request that measures be carried out to clean up the site but progress in this regard will be somewhat related to the outcome of the processes referred to previously.   The Cleansing Section have cleaned the Council owned site adjacent to the John of Gods site and will continue to monitor iand clean that site as necessary.

A deputation of residents from the area recently met with various Council departments to discuss this site amongst other issues.
