COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TERENURE-RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE (2)
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
MOTION NO. 10
MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart
"That graffiti be removed from the following locations:
Lucky Star Takeaway, Orlagh Grove;
Adjacent to St Brendan's at the Dodder Linear Park at the junction of Knocklyon Road/Firhouse Road and on the boundary wall of the walkway;
At gable of first house on Orlagh Rise;
On boundary wall of Orlagh Park at Colmcille's Way (behind the trees);
and for the Manager to indicate what works have been undertaken in the area since Christmas."
REPORT:
The locations mentioned have been referred to for initial inspection by the Litter warden for the area. Upon receipt of the appropriate inspection reports, the locations will be either referred to the Council's Graffiti Removal Team or a specialist cotractor as appropriate for removal, unless any of the graffiti is located on private property in which case the owner/occupier of the property will be requested to remove the graffiti in accordance with their obligations under the Litter Pollution Act, 1997 as amended.
In the first three months of this year, graffiti in approximately 35 locations in the Terenure/Rathfarnham area has been removed by the Council's Graffiti Removal Team. The Litter Wardens have also provided materials to various Residents Associations and other groups to assist them in removing additional graffiti. There have been some delays in engaging private contractors to carry out required specialised treatment of additional graffiti but this has been addressed and it is anticipated that a contractor will commence work on outstanding areas throughout the County within two weeks.
