QUESTION: Councillor C. King
To ask the Manager what percentage of the current Traveller Accommodation Programme has been implemented to date on a County-wide basis and is it envisaged the roll out of the programme will be completed within the life-time of the existing programme and can the manager make a statement on the matter?
REPLY:
The Assessment of need carried out in 2004 had indicated that a total of 215 units of accommodation would be required to provide for the current and future needs of the Traveller community within South Dublin County Council’s administrative area to the period to the end of 2008. The Traveller Construction Programme 2005 to 2008 has provided for the following units of accommodation through the construction phase of the accommodation programme :

As well as this provision of Residential Caravan Park Bays and Group Housing schemes, the following are the numbers of Traveller families that have been provided social housing as their first choice of accommodation during the course of the Programme :

It is likely that the provision of social housing units will exceed the requirements set in the programme.
The Sites within the Programme that have not yet been given a start date are as follows :
SITE NAME COMMENTS.
Belgard Road. The redevelopment of this site was considered to
commence in 2008, however due to the protracted
negotiations with the ITT, it is now unlikely to
commence this year.
Ballyowen Lane The redevelopment of this site was to commence
2007/2008, however the residents, following a
consultation process, have indicated that they wish
only a refurbishment of this site now.
Adamstown 1, 2 and 3 These sites will be the subject of Part V discussions
with the relevant developers on site.
Rathcoole Delays with the provision of the infrastructure has
meant the indefinite delay of the provision of this
site.
Bustyhill, Brittas, and
Blackchurch. No sites have been identified yet.
