MEETING OF TERENURE-RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE (2)

Tuesday, April 08, 2008

MOTION NO. 14

MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart

"That the Manager accept that the Bring Centre on Grange Road is in a deplorable state and represents a contradictory environmental image for this Council's Environmental Services Department; that it is covered in graffiti, strewn with rubbish; is located beside a vandalised and unused bicycle shelter and is generally an embarassment to this Council and this area committee; and in seeking to remedy the problem, follows through on previous commitments to resurface and upgrade the facility in general."

REPORT:

The Council has taken positive action with regard to bring banks in the County and CCTV has been installed at bring bank sites to reduce negative use. A number of fines have been issued and Grange Road site has yielded the first positive result in court with evidence obtained from the CCTV. In recent days a fine of €500 was issued with costs of €500.

In addition to the enforcement regime, the recent review of the Cleansing Service will include an significantly improved service to all bring bank sites within the county.

Discussions with the OPW are ongoing regarding relocating bring banks into the adjacent park. These discussions include possible alternatives for a definitive solution at the site. Member will be notified as soon as there is an outcome. The concerns of the Members and local residents are at all times borne in mind.
