MOTION NO 7.

MOTION: Councillor E. Walsh

"That the Manager close the entry into open space from Avondale Terrace due to serious anti social behaviour and noting that there are adequate other entry and exit points to the open space."

REPORT:

At request of residents, the Parks Department recently carried out pruning and crown raising of trees along the walkway to reduce the amount of screening and cover for potential perpetrators of anti-social behaviour.

There is a well-established desire line of usage evident on this walkway and there is no other entrance to the side of the park in question. .

It is the experience of the Parks Department that the closing of entrances to parks and small open spaces will not necessarily solve anti-social behaviour, as the behaviour is often an indication of other social problems.

It is also the experience of the Parks Department that where an entrance to a well established through route has been closed off that this has lead to vandalism of the closed entrance to re-open it.

The Parks Department is liasing with the local Gardai to monitor the area.
