QUESTION NO 9.

QUESTION: Councillor C. Keane

"To ask the Manager to report on the request for a sound barrier adjacent to the Rathfarnham Castle Playground & 10A The Woodlands and to state what and when it will be provided there?"

REPLY:

The owners of 10a The Woodlands have requested that the Parks Department build a 3.0 metre high, brick faced boundary wall to minimise the impact of the playground on their property. It has been noted that the owners of 10a have planning permission for a 2.8 metre high screen wall as per Register Reference SD04B/0405, final grant date 2nd December 2004.

The Parks Department has indicated to the owners of 10a that the preliminary estimate for the cost of a 3.0 metre high wall to the specification requested would be in the region of €50,000. The owners of 10a have been advised that there is no financial provision for expenditure of this magnitude within the project budget.

It is the experience of the Parks Department that a 2.8 metre screen wall, for which the owners of 10a have permission, would act as a considerable sound barrier between the property and the playground. The timescale for the provision of this wall would be a matter for the owners.
