MOTION NO 3.

MOTION: Councillor C. Keane

"That this committee discuss the term community facility/centre in the Terenure/Rathfarnham area and to draw up guidelines for the administration use of such facilities by the 'local community' and or local community groups."

REPORT:

Within the Community Services Department Scheme of Grants the following criteria is included under the development of a Multi- Purpose Community Centre:

·        Proposed Centre must be a focal point for community activity in the area.

·        Proposed Centre must be representative of the broad requirements of the community

·        The committee should be representative of the various estates and interests within the local community.

·        A process of consultation with groups and interests in the area should take place so that needs can be accurately assessed.

·        The site chosen should be in a central location, which is accessible to all parts of the community.

·        Appropriate management arrangements should be in place to ensure management of the facility by the community.

·        The centre must be available for use by a wide cross-section of the community.

Where as the above refers to a Multi-Purpose Community Centre, other facilities within the county are referred to within the Councils Scheme of Grants as Single Interest Facilities which include Scout Dens, Football Clubs, All Weather Facility etc.
