MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor C. Keane

"That this committee discusses the McHugh's ex-shopping centre site - it is now a derelict site for some time. That the Manager initiates the CPO on this site as agreed previously as development of this site is obviously not taking place and the local community cannot be left without shops, Post office and local facilities that were there previously. I was informed previously that building was to start over 3 months ago. If a housing estate of of 3000 houses were developed today without shops or any facilities there would be outcry and rightly so."

REPORT:

The developer of the ex-shopping centre site has advised that the commencement notice for development of this site was submitted to Planning Department on 11th January, 2008.  He is awaiting an Engineers report following an inspection which was carried out on the Traders Pub which is next door to the site.  There are two sitting tenants on this site and once the legalities have been finalized it is expected work on the agreed development will commence immediately afterwards.

Roads Department has been requested to carry out an inspection of this site to determine if the site is deemed to be derelict within the meaning of the Derelict Sites Act, 1990.
