QUESTION NO. 10
QUESTION: Councillor M. Corr
"To ask the Manager to arrange for the removal or enforcement to remove graffiti located on properties on * details supplied as a matter of urgency and to note the extremely negative effect that neglected privately rented properties such as the ones in question have on the quality of life of residents in the area and to make a statement on the matter?"
REPLY:
Where graffiti is on private property, the Environemtal Services Department's policy is to engage with local residents in the area and to supply materials to allow the residents to remove the graffiti where possible. The Litter Warden has been in contact with the residents in this area on numerous occasions in an effort to get their assistance to clean up the graffiti in the affected locations. However, despite the materials being offered to them to enable this work to be carried out, this has not been done. The owners/occupiers of the properties in question will be advised by the Litter Warden of their obligations under the Litter Pollution Act, 1997 as amended to ensure that their properties are kept free of graffiti and enforcement proceedings will be considred if no remedial action is undertaken by them.
