CATHAOIRLEACHS BUSINESS

That this committee calls on the Manager to provide public lighting entering the Rathcoole Community Centre and that he seeks to resolve any issues relating to private land ownership in this vicinity that are currently preventing the provision of public lighting.

REPORT:

The N7 Road widening scheme involved closure of direct access from the N7 Naas Road to several private properties located off the service road east of the Esso filling station.  An alternative access was provided to these properties by constructing a new access road from Rathcoole main street. The lands for this new access were acquired by Compulsory Purchase Order in 2002 from the Catholic Church, The Department of Education, the Community Council and a private landowner.  The access road was constructed by the Contractor and several public lighting standards were installed along the roadway which is in public ownership as part of the scheme. 

Only those lands acquired under the Compulsory Purchase Order were made available to the Contractor to undertake his works.  The provision of additional public lighting outside of the areas acquired under the CPO scheme will be examined, however, the Council does not provide public lighting on private land.
