MEETING OF SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

Monday, February 11, 2008

HEADED ITEM NO. 2(c)(ii)

Report of Tallaght Area Committee (1), 21st January 2008

Rathcoole Park

The Following report was discussed at the Tallaght Area Committee meeting held on 21st January 2008.

“There are no current plans for the provision of a soccer pitch at the location in question.  The future development of Rathcoole Park will be further considered in the light of ongoing overall developments in the area.  The local adult soccer club were never allocated playing facilities in Rathcoole Park and are facilitated in Corkagh Park where there are an adequate supply of pitches.”

Following discussion the following motion was proposed by Councillor J Daly, seconded by Councillor M Corr and agreed:

“That this Committee recommend that the Council erect the goal posts which  were removed at Rathcoole Saggart Park, so that the local team that were using the pitch, can return and play at their home venue.  Corkagh Park Clondalkin, where they transferred to by South Dublin County Council is overcrowded and every local team should have priority to a pitch in their own area”.

Negotiations are currently ongoing in relation to finalising the boundaries of  lands disposed of to the GAA and access arrangements .  An overall plan for Rathcoole Park is in the process of formulation in the context of the overall developments in the area.

The question of the provision of a soccer pitch in Rathcoole Park will be considered in the overall plan for the Park and a further report will be presented to Area Committee members.
