COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
Monday, February 11, 2008
MOTION NO. 10
MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell
That it would greatly assist the flow of traffic if each and every roundabout on a National or primary route in the County had a distinguishing name and/or number and that the Manager responsible bring forward proposals for such a scheme and to include in the proposals ways in which local communities and/or schools can become involved n the exercise so as to make it locally relevant and to raise awareness and a sense of County identity.
REPORT:
As part of the upgrade works for the national primary routes in South Dublin (N4, N7 and M50) new signage will include clearly displayed junction numbers. This is in order to assist navigation by motorists on these routes and in particular anyone using these roads for the first time.
The numbering system is in accordance with the Traffic Signs Manual which stipulates the manner in which junctions shall be numbered and The National Roads Authority who coordinate the numbering of junctions as part of a national system.
