APPLICATION BY CARA HOUSING ASSOCIATION FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE UNDER THE CAPITAL LOAN AND SUBSIDY SCHEME IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 6 OF THE HOUSING (MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS) ACT 1992 TOWARDS THE CONSTRUCTION OF 65 UNITS OF ACCOMMODATION AT BALGADDY C, LUCAN.

An application has been received from Cara Housing Association for a loan in the sum of €9,179,372.57 for the construction of 65 no. 2 bedroom apartments at Balgaddy C, Lucan.  The projected completion date is February 2008.  The Association is an approved Voluntary Housing Body under Section 5 of the Housing Act, 1988.  The project will provide for general needs housing with all applicants taken from the Council's housing list.  Cara Housing Association already manages twenty four housing units in Balgaddy.

Under Section 6 of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1992 the granting of assistance under the Capital Loan and Subsidy Scheme is a reserved function of the Council and is subject to the approval of the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

Accordingly, the following motion is required:

"That the Council recommends that the application for a loan in the sum of €9,179,372.57 under the Capital Loan and Subsidy Scheme to Cara Housing Association for the construction of 65 no. dwellings at Baldaddy C, Lucan in accordance with the requirements of Section 6 of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1992 be approved".
