MOTION NO. 7

MOTION: Councillor C. Keane

"That this Committee recommends that a specific village improvement scheme be prepared in order to undertake work along Taylors Lane to include asthetic features such as street furniture, granite walls to properties not covered in the CPO roads scheme and other related issues outstanding."

REPORT:

As part of the Urban and Village Renewal Scheme 2000 - 2006, South Dublin County Council received a financial allocation from the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government (DoEHLG) to complete the scheme over the period.  However the Urban and Village Renewal Scheme 2000 – 2006 is no longer in operation.  Works carried out in the area under the scheme included footpath improvements at Bugler’s Pub and improvements to Main Street, Rathfarnham.

It is understood that the DoEHLG is in the process of developing a scheme in conjunction with the new National Development Plan 2007-2013 for areas in need of renewal in the Gateway and Hub cities and towns as designated in the National Spatial Strategy.  This scheme will hopefully receive Ministerial approval in early 2008.  All local authorities will then be informed of details of the scheme including available funds, qualifying criteria etc.  Ballyboden and other areas will be included in the list of locations for possible inclusion in the new scheme if appropriate for the agreement of Council.
