COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TERENURE-RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE 2
Tuesday, 8th January 2008
QUESTION NO. 7
QUESTION: Councillor E. Walsh
"To ask the Manager for a report on the number of schools in the Terenure Rathfarnham area that are charged for water supply and to list them with the amount owed?"
REPLY:
There is a total of 27 schools (12 Secondary and 15 Primary) in the Terenure Rathfarnham Committee area, who are liable for water charges. The Council's policy in relation to charging of schools for water consumption has historically been that all Secondary schools are and have been for many years metered and charged for water on that basis. The current Consolidated Water Charge (CWC) is €1.78 per cubic metre.
Up until the present time Primary Schools paid for water usage by a fixed amount annually. This varied according to the Rateable Valuation of the school. Currently the charge falls within a range between €80 and €240. Under the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) and in line with Government Policy the Council will be obliged to have all non domestic premises, including Primary schools, metered and charged for water. The metering project is currently well advanced and is expected to be completed by June 2008.
No bills have yet issued to Primary schools under the metering system. The amount of Water Charges owed by Primary Schools in the Committee area is currently €310.
