MOTION: Councillor J. Neville

That this Committee discuss the non-completion of both the Zip Project and the Plaza (beside the Credit Union) at Tallaght Village.

REPORT:

The Zip project was originally scheduled for completion at the end of August 2007. The project is currently scheduled for all out completion in January 2008, a delay of 4 months. This delay was caused by a number of factors including late delivery of granite due to flooding in Chinese quarries, redesign and remodelling of footpaths around Tuansgate due to continuing uncertainty about the proposed redevelopment of the Square shopping centre and its access requirements and changes requested by businesses in Tallaght village. The project although not large in area extends across several busy junctions, traffic lights and access points

In view of its complexity, the delay, although regrettable, is not catastrophic and overall public reaction to the Project is very favourable.  Every effort will be made to wrap up the project as soon as possible.
