Report on Maintenance of Firhouse Road

Following discussion at the last meeting of the Area Committee, it was agreed to defer further consideration of this matter to this meeting of the Area Committee to enable a full and detailed examination of the matter to be carried out. The following motion in the name of Councillor John Hannon had been proposed and seconded:

“That urgent action be taken by Roads Dept to resolve outstanding issues in relation to the care and maintenance of the Firhouse Road area from Ballycullen Road to Scoil Carmel.”

In the period since the last meeting a detailed site inspection has been carried out and the areas referred to in the motion have been identified. It has been confirmed by the Senior Engineer that these areas were satisfactorily completed by the Roads contractor and that these areas had been handed over to the Parks and Landscape Services Department.The issues raised in the motion have also been discussed in detail with the Parks and Landscape Services Department. It has been confirmed by them that the areas referred to in the motion are in the charge of the Parks and Landscape Services Department and that the maintenance of these areas falls within their remit. The Parks and Landscape Services Department have undertaken to review the maintenance of these areas and in this regard a further on-site joint inspection has been arranged to review the matters raised in the motion. Following this inspection the Councillor will be contacted further in this matter.
