CO-OPTION OF NEW MEMBER FOLLOWING RESIGNATION OF COUNCILLOR G. CULLEN
By email, dated 11th November 2007 Councillor Gerard Cullen tendered his resignation from South Dublin County Council in accordance with Section 18 of the Local Government Act, 2001.
Section 19 of the Local Government Act 2001 provides that a casual vacancy shall be filled by the co-option by the local authority of a person to fill the vacancy, subject to such person being nominated by the same registered political party who nominated for election or co-option the member who caused the casual vacancy, and that such co-option shall be made at the next meeting of the local authority after the expiration of 14 days from the occurrence of the vacancy or as soon after the expiration of the 14 days as circumstances permit.
Mr. Alan McGaughey has been duly nominated by the Progressive Democrats, being the registered political party who nominated Councillor Cullen for election.
In accordance with Section 19(5) Mr. McGaughey’s written consent to his proposed co-option has been received.
It is now a matter for the Council to co-opt the new Member in accordance with the procedure set out in Section 19(3) of the Local Government Act, 2001.
