Minutes of Meeting of the Transportation Strategic Policy Committee held on 6th September 2007 which were confirmed at the Strategic Policy Committee Meeting held on Thursday 8th November 2007.

1. Confirmation of Minutes

The Minutes of Transportation Strategic Policy Committee held on 22nd February 2007 were CONFIRMED and APPROVED as a true record and signed.

2. Provision of Cycle Tracks

Mr. F. Coffey, Director of Transportation presented a report. He updated the members and suggested that a full meeting should be devoted to this issue at which details of the conference attended by a number of officials and members would be presented as part of the report.

Following contributions from Councillors, S. Laing, D. Keating, C Keane and T. Ridge the report was NOTED and it was AGREED that a further report on this issue would be presented to the next meeting of this Committee.

3. School Transport – Feasibility Study Update.

Mr. E. Read, TAS Consultants made a presentation to the members outlining the details of his draft feasibility report. He informed the members that the selection of schools was based on the level of car ownership, usage and parental interest in such a scheme. Mr. F. Coffey Director of Transportation informed the members that the Dublin Transport Office have agreed to provide funding for this report. The source of funding for a pilot scheme has yet to be identified.

Following contributions from Councillors S. Laing, T. Ridge, E. Tuffy, M. Murphy, D. Keating, C. Keane, B. Gogarty, G. Cullen and S. O’Conchúir the report was NOTED and the report is to be presented to the October County Council meeting.

If the members pass the report at the County Council Meeting, funding for the pilot scheme will be sought from the Department of Transport/Dublin Transportation Office.

4. Luas at Ellensborough

Mr. F. Coffey Director of Transportation informed the members that following discussions with the Rail Procurement Agency he has been advised that while the Rail Procurement Agency think that an extension of the Tallaght line to Ellensborough is a good idea it will not be part of their current plans as it is not included in Transport 21. The members were also informed that the Luas extention to City West could begin as early as April 2008.

Following a contribution from Councillor M. Murphy the report was NOTED.
