1/ Minutes of meeting of minutes of meeting of 9th May 2007 were discussed and matters arising dealt with.
Proposed by Cllr D Keating and seconded by Cllr B. Gogarty the minutes were agreed as a true record.
2/ “Keep Ireland Open” – Presentation by Roger Garland
A presentation was delivered by Roger Garland on the above theme and related to Rights of Way on Walking Routes. The presentation followed a pioneering project of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and highlighted the need for a project within the administrative area of South Dublin County Council to identify specific walking routes used by existing clubs in the area. Mr Garland indicated that the clubs could collectively identify up to 20 such routes that should have right of way designation.
Following a lengthy debate to which Cllrs M. Daly and D. Keating and A Shields contributed it was agreed that a list of such routes that can be identified be submitted to the Community Services Department for consideration and decision as to how best to progress further.
3/ Bio-Diversity in Parks Presentation
Dr C Boylan made a presentation to the Committee on Bio-Diversity within Parks and as delivered by Dr Boylan on the 3rd September at the 2007 International World IFPRA Conference held at the RDS. The presentation outlined the vast value of Parks in South Dublin County and the diverse values and uses of our parks.
Following a lengthy debate on the presentation to which Cllrs D Keating, M Daly, B Gogarty and J Neville and A Shields contributed the report was noted and agreed that the issues regarding the safety and security of our parks be a matter for discussion at a Joint Policing Committee Meeting.
At the end of this item on the agenda a special tribute was paid by all in attendance to Dr Boylan for his years of dedication and work for the Council and also his service and contributions to the Committee as this was his last Strategic Policy Committee meeting prior to his retirement.
