MOTION NO. 6
MOTION: Councillor M. Corr
CATHAOIRLEACH'S BUSINESS
That the Manager immediately investigates the visual impact and environmental impact of neighbourhood shops within Council estates with a view to assisting or requiring owners or tenants to significantly improve them.
REPORT:
It is intended to carry out an environmental impact and visual impact inspection of each neighbourhood shop leased from the Council and its environs, within the County.
Members should be aware that in some cases having regard to difficult trading conditions, the levels of rent are well below market value and the levels of arrears outstanding to the Council is substantial.
It is important that each individual case is examined on its own merit to assist the Lessees in dealing with difficulties which arise within the terms of the lease granted. It is a responsibility of the Lessees to manage and maintain their premises in accordance with the lease terms.
As requested the Council will carry out the visual and environmental impact inspection of each shop and its environs and on completion a further report will be presented to the Members.
