QUESTION NO 19.
QUESTION: Councillor K. Warren
“To ask the Manager if he could set out exactly what works now need to take place at the entrance to Dodder Valley Park, off the new Firhouse Road, as a means of bringing the area up to a standard that was agreed with residents before the new Firhouse Road was established at this location, the exact timetable involved for these works, and if he will make a statement on the matter?”
REPLY:
The development of the new Dodder Valley parklands at Firhouse is an ongoing project. Works completed to date include substantial earthworks to regrade the site, construction of a network of pedestrian pathways within the new parkland area and linking downstream to Firhouse Weir, construction of a viewing mound and landscaping of part of the site into grass and wildflower meadow areas. The landscaping of the remainder of the site was deferred until completion of the Firhouse Road Improvement Scheme due to realignment of the park boundary with the Firhouse Road. It is planned to complete the landscaping of the site into grass during 2008 following completion of the road scheme.
With regard to the treatment of the entrance to the park off the Firhouse Road at this location, a new boundary wall and railing incorporating a formal vehicular and pedestrian entrance to the newly developed parklands is being provided as part of the ongoing Firhouse Road Improvement Scheme. The contractor for the road scheme has been temporarily facilitated with a compound area within the parklands for the duration of the project. On completion of the road scheme and vacation of the compound site, a new car park to serve the new parklands will be constructed on the site of the current works compound.
