QUESTION: Councillor J. Neville

"To ask the Manager for a detailed report on the issue of whether the windows at *details suppliedare in compliance with all relevant Health & Safety regulations?"

REPLY:

The Council's Clerk of Works identified a problem with bedroom window design during the construction period. The Consultant Architect agreed to install a mid-rail to improve matters. This has been installed in all houses except: -

• One of the dwelllings the tenant refused to allow the contractor to make this change;
• Three of the dwellings the tenants have not made themselves available for this remedial work despite repeated visits by the Council staff and the contractor.

In the interim, all the bedroom windows involved were fitted with restrictors and are in compliance with Health and Safety requirements as a result.

It is intended to write to the relevant tenants with a deadline for compliance with access requirements to allow the remedial work to be carried out as soon as possible.
