Subject: Resignation Notice
Dear Manager,
It is with regret that I must tender my resignation as a Councillor for the Progressive Democrats.
As I have mentioned to you previously the reason for my resignation is simply the fact that I cannot balance both my job as a local representative and my job of a school Principal. Both roles are equally demanding and therefore it is impossible to give 100% to either one. Although I initially relished the challenge of both roles, over time I found it terribly difficult, at times impossible, to juggle the tasks of two very responsible jobs and as a result I feel I cannot commit myself fully to either.
I have taught in Mount Carmel Secondary School, which is situated in the north inner city of Dublin, for over 10 years and have enjoyed every minute. Since being appointed as Principal in September 2006 my role has changed significantly. While it is far more challenging I still find it hugely rewarding. I am fully committed to my job, and the children in my care, and I want to give them as much of my time and energy as possible.
While I have agonised over this decision for some months I feel that now is the right time to step aside. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time representing the PDs, the members of Dublin Mid West and especially the people of Newcastle and Clondalkin in the Council Chambers. However I now feel that under my present circumstances I cannot do the PDs, and all those I represent, justice. I intend to step down at the next Council meeting on Monday 12th November.
Thank you for your support during my time as a local representative.
Yours sincerely,
