The Rental Accommodation Schemecommenced in South Dublin County Council in late 2005. To datea total ofthree hundred Rent Supplement Recipients have beentransferred into the scheme. The RAS Unit also negotiates contracts forvacant properties to accommodate Rent Supplement Recipients whose landlords are not interested in joining RAS or whose current accommodation is unsuitable due to its condition or size. A total of eighty properties have been contracted into RAS to date for this purpose. During 2007 South Dublin County Council purchased properties throughout its administrative area and designatedone hundred of these as RAS Properties. The RAS Unit is in the process of accommodating applicants who are onthe Housing Waiting List in these properties, in accordance with their position on the Housing Waiting List. These properties will be managed and maintained by a Voluntary HousingBody.

The Environmental Health Officers have inspected eight hundred and seven properties to dateto ensurestandards in rented accommodation meet those set out under the Housing Regulations for rentedaccommodation.
