MEETING OF TERENURE/RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE (2)

Tuesday, November 13, 2007

MOTION NO. 8

MOTION: Councillor C. Keane

"That this committee recommends that funding be allocated as a priority to allow for the execution of a new plan, proposed by the Orwell Park Residents Association, for work on Orwell Park Green i.e. the removal of all the Poplar Trees, replanting with smaller more suitable trees - not clustered together; and the construction of a pathway - noting that the 10,000 euro that was allocated for seating etc. on this Green in 2006 was not agreed by the Residents Association and so remained unspent."

REPORT:

In recent months, a schedule of improvement works including tree planting and the construction of new pedestrian pathways on the open space at Orwell has been discussed and agreed between the Parks Department and the Orwell Residents Association. The location is being listed for funding as part of the proposed 2008 Parks Works Programme. It is planned to bring this proposed programme for the consideration of the elected members to the December meeting of the Terenure/Rathfarnham Area Committee.

With regard to the sum of Euro 10,000 which was allocated under the 2006 Parks Works Programme for improvement works to the open space at Orwell, the Parks & Landscape Services Department prepared a draft plan for the proposed works which was presented for discussion with the Orwell Residents Association during 2006. However, failure to reach agreement with the Residents Association on the proposed new works resulted in the 2006 funding being spent on the resurfacing and upgrading of the existing pedestrian paths on the open space.
