QUESTION: Councillor K. Warren
“To ask the Manager to confirm that the water supply to Deselby, Blessington Road, Tallaght, was recently cut off for a 12 hour period from Sunday September 30th to Monday October 1st, and that despite clear commitments from South Dublin County Council that people would be informed of this event, that no such information was given to local residents, and would he further accept the deep frustration of people in this community who regularly find that their water is cut off without prior notice, and if he will make a statement on the matter?”
REPLY:
The DeSelby estate on Blessington Road is located in the Westbrook Glen District Metered Area (DMA). There are no records of any calls to the Council around the period of Sunday September 30th and Monday October 1st regarding problems with water supply in the Westbrook Glen DMA. The Council’s water supply telemetry system does not show anything unusual with the water supply in that DMA at that time. There may have been a problem with a private plumbing system during the period referred.
Where there are planned disruptions to water supplies for maintenance or any other reason, customers are informed and given as much notice and information as possible, using various means including newspaper adverts, Council website, local radio, email, and notices delivered to residents and commercial customers. Where disruptions are unplanned, eg. water main bursts andwhere the disruption is significantly serious or ongoing, appropriate notification is given during the disruption and current information during disruptions is available from the Environmental Services Department, the Water Maintenance Depot,Customer Care and the Council's website.
Whether disruptions to water supply are planned or unplanned, the period of disruption and the area affected is always kept to a minimum.
