MEETING OF SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

Monday, November 12, 2007

QUESTION NO.8

QUESTION: Councillor T. McDermott

To ask the manager for an update on discussions with Dun Laoghaire / Rathdown, Coilte and the Dublin Mountains Initiative - particularly in respect of the objectives of Chapter 9 of the County Development Plan.

REPLY:

Following discussions with both Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and Coilte, it was decided to prepare a recreational strategy for the Dublin Mountains. A steering committee has been set up involving representatives also from the Dublin Mountain Initiative and the National Park and Wildlife Service of the DOEHLG to progress this project. Consultants have been engaged to prepare a draft Strategy for the management and development of recreation, primarily on public owned land in the Dublin Mountains for a ten year period up to 2017. It is currently anticipated that the work of the consultants will be completed by the end of the year. The report of the Consultants will be brought to the attention of the Council when completed.
