QUESTION NO. 11
QUESTION: Councillor J. Neville
To ask the Manager to outline South Dublin County Council's financial contribution for Fire Services in the last financial year, what percentage of the total contribution from the four local Authorities does this comprise, the number of fire stations within the four local authorities & the number of current fire stations within the administrative area of South Dublin County Council?
REPLY:
The Fire Service is provided to South Dublin County Council by Dublin City Councilon an agency basis. The cost of this service to South Dublin County Council in 2006 was €16.6m. The estimated cost of providing this service for 2007 has been advised by Dublin City Council as €17.1m. The overall cost of providing the service in the Dublin region for 2006 was €99m and is broken down into such areas as salaries, wages, pensions, clothing, fire plant maintenance, fuel, telephone, radio equipment, rent, rates, insurance etc. This cost is apportioned between the four Local Authorities in the Dublin Region and is calculated using Rateable Valuation and Population Census figures for each Authority. The Council's contribution is therefore approximately 17% of the total cost.
Dublin City Council has advised that there are currently 12 full time Fire Stations in the Dublin Region and 2 retained (part time) Stations. There is one full time station located in South Dublin County Council's administrative area and this is a two pump station located at Belgard Road, Tallaght.
