To ask the Manager for details regarding the positions, functions and activities of the Green Schools Officer and Green Business Officer in South Dublin County ?
REPLY:
In South Dublin County Council, there are two staff members employed in the promotion of environmental awareness. The Environmental awareness section includes an Environmental Awareness Officer and Assistant Environmental Awareness Officer.
Their functions include the following:
- To promote prevention and awareness of best practice in waste management and litter awareness in the community and the organisation.
- Develop recycling within the County
- Increase awareness of water conservation in the County
- Prepareand deliver aprogrammewithin the County targetted at:-
- Households
- Communities
- Schools
- Businesses
Activities of the section include the following:
- Delivery of the green schools programme
- Organisation of Ecoweek
- Implementation of Beautiful South Dublin County competition
- Organisation of schools environmental awareness programme
- Development of a community environmental awareness programme for Rapid areas in conjunction with Global Action Plan
- Organisation of community environmental workshops
- Coordination of the Pride of Place competition
- Participating in the Local Agenda 21 group as determined by the County Development Board Action Plan.
- Participation and coordination in anti litter campaigns – PURE, Anti Gum litter campaign, National Spring Clean.
- Management of Departmental grant schemes – Environmental Partnership Fund and Anti- Litter Grant Fund.
- Preparation and coordination of newsletter and information leaflets for the public.
