QUESTION NO. 1
QUESTION: Councillor T. McDermott
"To ask the Manager for a detailed report regarding the ownership of and access to the Megalithic tomb on Mount Venus Road, Dublin 16?"
REPLY:
The Portol Tomb at Woodstown off the Mount Venus Road is recorded as being a protected structure under the National Monuments Act in the current Development Plan,
All such sites are identified by a relevant reference number (in this case List 1, DUO25-002) which is derived from the record of Monuments and Places for Dublin, published by Duchas.
The "Tomb" is situated on land which is not registered in the Land Registry, but it would appear it is privatly owned land. Further research of the records in the Registry of Deeds is currently being undertaken to ascertain ownership.
Access by the public to any protected structure on private lands is a matter for the land owner.
