MOTION NO. 8
MOTION: Councillor E. Maloney
That this committee be presented with a report on road safety measures on Mayberry Road Kilnamanagh
REPORT:
Between 1990 and January 2006 there have been 95 reported traffic accidents on Mayberry Road at the intersections with Greenhills Road and Belgard Road, of which 36 involved personal injury and in one case a fatality occurred. A scheme to regulate traffic movement on Mayberry Road was approved and funded by the National Roads Authority under their Low Cost Safety Improvement Works Scheme. The scheme consists of channelisation lining to provide for safe turning movements and central traffic calming islands. The traffic situation along the road has been monitored over the last few months and it has been decided to lengthen the right turn refuge at the Greenhills Road end and this will be in place shortly.
The measures introduced are designed to improve road safety and curb illegal and potentially dangerous driving practices undertaken by a considerable number of motorists. The measures undertaken are consistent with SDCC, NRA, DoEHLG standards.
