QUESTION: Councillor M. Corr
To ask the Manager to state when the proposed/promised CCTV system for the RAPID areas of Tallaght will be installed, the extent of this system and how this will be operated?
REPLY:
Section 36 of the Garda Siochana Act 2005 provides that joint policing committees shall be established by local authorities and the Garda Commissioner in accordance with guidelines to be issued by the Minister of Justice, Equality and Law Reform after consulting with the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.
These guidelines as issued by the Department authorise the establishment such a committee in South Dublin County and the final membership of the South Dublin County Joint Policing Committee was noted by the Council at its meeting held on the 8th October 2007. The first meeting of the Joint Policing Committee will be held on Friday 26th October 2007 at which the approval for the relevant CCTV schemes for the County will be sought. The CCTV process cannot be completed the Schemes have received approval from the Joint Policing Committee and the necessary authorisation by the Garda Commissioner has been secured.
Tender assessments have been completed and POBAL informed regarding the position at which the Council is at in relation to the Joint Policing Committee.
