MOTION NO 4
MOTION: Councillor M. Ardagh
"That the Manager set out the response from the Department of the Environment on the Council's submission on the proposed works for the restoration of Templeogue House and will he state when these works will commence and ask when consultation will take place with the Templeogue House Development Committee on the matter."
REPORT:
Templeogue House is a National Monument in the ownership of South Dublin County Council.
Any proposal to restore and / or refurbish the House requires approval through DUCHAS of the Minister of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
Following much discussion with DUCHAS and preparation of expert advice and reports in July 2007 the Minister of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government conveyed his consent to the proposal subject to a number of conditions in the preservation of elements of the House under Section 14 of the National Monuments Act 1930 as amended by Section 5 of the National Monuments (Amendment Act) 2004.
This now allows the Council to proceed to RIAI Stage 5 which in the main is the production of working drawings, preparation of bill of quantities and tender documents leading to tendering process for the approved works which we will expect to be completed within the next few weeks.
A new Section 183 is currently being prepared for the Bridge Club as agreed in relation to the revised agreement on the use of car parking following the completed works in this regard.
A Part 8 process has already been completed on this project and the consent of the Minister of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to the proposal concerned in the main with the retention of the first floor roof beams and continued consultation with the Heritage Section during all stages of excavation and refurbishment.
The Members will be kept informed of progress in this matter and a presentation will be brought to Area Committee at its meeting in November.
