QUESTION NO 9

QUESTION: Councillor E. Walsh

"To ask the Manager to arrange for a survey of Fernhill Estate to ascertain the number of trees that need to be planted in the estate so as to replace the trees that have been removed without replacements and that provision be made in the forthcoming budget to enable this to happen?"

REPLY:

Over the years, trees have been removed from Fernhill Estate mainly because of blocking street lights. These locations were not considered suitable for replanting due to the proximity of the street lights. The opportunities for tree planting are also limited by narrow footpaths and the absence of suitable grass margins. However, the Parks Department will arrange for a survey of the estate to identify suitable locations for tree planting.
