MOTION NO. 5

MOTION: Councillor D. Keating

That the Manager agrees to progress the School Transportation Pilot Project as prepared and discussed at the Transportation Strategic Committee and that as part of this Pilot Project the Manager agrees to initiate a Consultation Process with Local School Committees to further gauge how this Pilot Project can be best effective in South Dublin and that this consultation process would be conducted in parallel with the concerted efforts to secure the necessary funding from the Government and any other such agencies.

REPORT:

The School Transport System Study, presented to the Transportation S.P.C., on Sept. 6th 2007, is attached.

If the School Transport System Report prepared by TAS Consultants is noted by the members the next stage is the preparation of a Pilot Project. Recommendation 8.3.1 refers:-

“Once the general idea of the pilot project has been approved by the Council we propose that parents in the schools are asked to commit to using the services. In parallel we recommend that the Council makes a formal approach to the DTO and the Department of Education and Science for seed money to launch the project. The DTO has indicated that they may be willing to support a pilot project, but would not be able to provide ongoing revenue support.”
