MOTION NO 2

MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart

"That the Manager draws up an immediate plan for the cleaning and tidying up of Taylor's Court, Ballyboden, which despite my repeated requests remains in a poor condition. This was an exemplary development only launched a few years ago and the Council's Housing Section needs to outline its short-term, medium-term and long-term plan for ensuring its ongoing maintenance."

REPORT:

Housing Department has organised for grass cutting to be carried out twice in the last two years in Taylor's Court after receiving requests from residents there.

Parks Department is normally responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of open spaces including grass cutting. The Builiding Contractor engaged on the development completed the landscaping works before handing the development over to Housing Construction several years ago. However in this instance Parks Department has not taken Taylor's Court in charge because they do not believe the open space is up to an acceptable standard. Parks Department has informed Housing Dept that there is a cost of circa €30,000 for completion of works to bring the area up to an accepable standard for it to be maintained by Parks Department. Staff from Housing and Parks Department plan to discuss this issue and how best to go forward.
