MOTION NO. 1
MOTION: Councillor S. Laing
CATHAOIRLEACH'S BUSINESS
"That the Manager give an update report and to state what action he intends to take on the correspondence received from attached regarding the removal of a tree at the rere of 5,6,7,and 8,Village Green Rathfarnham and the examination of the cracks in the rere wall. (Mr.Brian Walsh and Rathfarnham Village Green Residents Assocation)."
REPORT:
The Environmental Services Department had the tree in Rathfarnham cemetery examined by a tree specialist earlier this year. The report received by the Council advised that the tree is in a safe and stable condition but that it required work to remove certain branches or parts of branches. The pruning work required was carried out by a specialist tree surgeon at the end of July/ start of August this year and involved the crown of the tree being reduced in size by more than ten per cent. All deadwood, cracked or hanging branches were removed at that time also.
An inspection of the wall in question was carried out by the Council's Architects Department to establish if the wall is safe. The report issued concluded that the wall is safe. The cracks visible in the wall have not been created by the root system of the tree in question and trial holes excavated at the base of the wall have borne this out.
