QUESTION NO. 2

QUESTION: Councillor J. Hannon

To ask the Manager to supply the following information in connection with new accommodation procured by the Council in private and/or mixed tenure residential developments:

1.  Average expenditure (if any) per unit in addition to cost of procurement, in order to bring them up to standard

2. Average length of time from handover to occupation.

REPLY:

The average amount of money spent on upgrading house purchases to augment the Housing Construction programme is €17,000 per dwelling. This cost could include substantial items like window replacement to meet current standards, central heating upgrades, as well as other works including painting. The homes would be brought up to full South Dublin County Council standards as approved by the Councils Housing & Architectural Services Departments.

The dwellings purchased are let in accordance with the aproved Scheme of Letting Priorities by the Councils Allocations Section. The dwellings are let as soon as practicable on completion of any upgrading works that are carried out.   The average allocation time is approx 8 weeks.
