MOTION No. 2
MOTION: Councillor C. Keane
"That this council recommends that we once again discuss the Graffiti issue in the TRAC area with the following information available in the report
(a) How many requests currently in for Graffiti removal inthe TRAC area
(b) to list all the locations i.e. in the Terenure Rathfarnham electoral ward.
(c) to state when (date) setting up of graffiti squad - and nos. of personnel in each squad? (nos. for whole county & nos. for TRAC area)
(d) how many areas have been removed since setting up of Graffiti squad i.e in the TRAC area
(e) to give a work schedule/programme (i.e. areas/locations to be cleaned for the TRAC area for the next 6 weeks- (this must be available for efficient advance planning?)
(f) to state how the choice of areas is made for Graffiti removal.
(g) to state what advice/materials /help is available to residents associations who may want to remove graffiti."
REPORT:
(a) There are 20 requests currently on hand for the removal of graffiti in the Committee's area
(b) The breakdown of the list of locations is as follows
Rathfarnham 6 locations
Templeogue 1 location
Terenure 2 locations
Knocklyon 4 locations
Perrystown 5 locations
Walkinstown 2 locations
(c) The Graffiti Removal Squad was established in May 2006 and currently consists of one crew comprising five General Operatives and one Supervisor. This crew is not solely assigned to any specific area of the County.
(d) Graffiti has been removed from 87 locations in the Committee's area to date.
(e) It is not possible to outline the programme of work which will be undertaken over the next six weeks. Every effort is made to undertake work in each of the three Committee areas in an equitable manner. Emergency work regularly has to be undertaken where graffiti, by virtue of its content, must be removed urgently because it is offensive to children or the gardaí or named individuals.
(f) Having regard to (e) above, graffiti is generaly removed in the order in which requests were received, although areas in the same general vicinity may be treated sequentially in the interests of efficiency.
(g) Any residents group or individual who wishes to paint over graffiti may get assistance to do so through contact with the Litter Warden for their area. The Litter Wardens contact telephone number is 4149220.
